The last session of the day saw several newbies introduced into the Makerspace. After reading the hilarious story which had them all hooked we created 'undies' for our naked turtle (which of course they thought was even more hilarious but in fact was a 3D style shell). I provided the turtle shape and a 'ruler guide' which they used to lay on boxes, paper or card to cut around. This was a challenge! They then folder the ends and stuck their strip onto the turtle (we left any extra decorating until the end otherwise our creations don't get finished in the timeframe). Fine motor skills, co operation, collaboration and rich language filled the room. Learners were so proud of themselves and all but one totally finished. These kids are a delight!
I discovered this site on Pinterest and adapted the idea so rather than giving learners the course strips they chose, measured and cut their own. This also made each creation unique and providing dead challenge and problem solving opportunities.
I wonder what the kids will call me, today one said "I'm looking for the Apple Teacher"......and another said "Are you Mrs Maker?" ......funny.
